We know it’s a little late to start working on those summer bodies, but we have the perfect addition to your summer gym soundtrack. Washington native and innovative artist, Goatboi, has released his single “I AIN’T TRYNA RIOT”. This song has explosive energy along with its’ new, interesting and all together addictive sound. Goatboi, who derived his name from an old high school nickname, has an interesting story behind his music career. His freshman year of college, Goatboi struggled with a horrible bout of seasonal depression; in fact he explains that this was the first time he ever faced suicidal thoughts. Music, he further explains, was a medium for release of all the dark feelings he was burdened with at the time. His music allowed for a creative outlet of thoughtful expression. What started as a means of coping with one of the most difficult points in his life turned into a successful career in the music industry. Being an artist, however, had really always been a dream for Goatboi.

He began releasing tracks in the summer of 2018 with the help of a few of his close friends. His friends, however, were not the only influences on his musical style. Goatboi explains that his hometown, Lacey, Washington, is a “melting” pot of different sounds and cultures. He admits that he struggles to explain the musical style of Lacey, as it is so unique and diversely influenced. His personal music style, which he explains is influenced by many factors, is unique in its own way. The determined artist draws much of his inspiration for the artist “Earl Sweatshirt”, and expresses his admiration for the artists’ wordplay and lyricism. Goatboi describes his sound as a “blend between the neo-trap sound and tactical lyricism”; a unique sound that he labels as “4096”.

We asked Goatboi what he feels is the most important aspect of his artwork. “The most important aspect of my artwork”, explained Goatboi, “ is that it’s relevant to the time period and my headspace at the time, but that it’s also built to last. Goatboi, formerly “Saint Goat”, explains that he strives for his music to be just as culturally relevant in the future as it is in the moment in which it is created. We have found that Goatbois’ music is, as mentioned before, full of energy and passion, yet easy to follow with a message that we can all relate to. Goatboi is certainly a rising artist to keep your eye on!
